THE RECENT NRES.
At yesterday's meeting of th) City Council, the recent fires in Pitt-stmt and at the Asylum, and the inadequacy of water pressure thereat, was several times indirectly brought up. Reports from heads of various departments we£ received. These were, without being nad, referred to the Fire Brigades Cnmmi&ee. Messrs. Hesketh and Richmond sent fa a claim, on behalf of Mr. E. Waters, Qujen-street, for £99 7s, to cover damage tone to his property by the bursting of a water main, on December 21 last, at the tine of the second outbreak. Referred to (he Legal Committee, the engineer to report as to the claim.
