FIRE EXTINGUISHING PLANT FOR SYDENHAM.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, Monday. -The fire insurance companies having de dined to allow the usual 5 per cent, discount on premiums in Sydenham owing to the absence of a fire-extinguishine plant, und the failure of the Borough Council to ttake arrangements with the City Councilor the services of the Christchurch brigade, the Sydenham Council to-night decided-to offer the City Council £100 per annum for the use of their chemical engine and the housing of the railway steam fire engine. "was also resolved to ask the Toronto (Canada) municipal authorities to furnish Particulars of the system of municipal fire Bsurance in existence there.
