AQUATICS.

The Matangi returned from her cruise to the North on Sunday, having been away for over a week. The weather was very bad, it raining nearly all the time. She only gob as far as Russell. The new yacht which R. Logan, of the North Shore, has built for a Wellington syndicate, sails for Wellington to-morrow in charge of Captain Butt. This afternoon the steel yacht built by Seagar Bros, for Mr. R. Masefield, is to be launched from the breastwork near the Hobson-street Wharf. The rigging, etc., is to be hurried on with so as to enable the yacht to take part in the picnic of the Yacht Club to Drunken Bay on Saturday next. A great deal of interest is being taken in the boat by yachtsmen generally, and her movements when she is under sail will be eagerly ] noted.

As an outcome of the race between the crews of the Dovonport Torpedo Corps and the Auckland Naval Artillery on Saturday last an order for a new cutter has been placed in the hands of Mjttsrs. C. and W. Bailey by Captain Parker, orthe lorpedo Corps. The cutter is to be 32 feet in length, and is to be ready to take part in the naval cutter race at the annual regatta. The Auckland Yacht Club are making a digression this year in their annual excursion by extending invitations outside the Yacht Club to the members and friends of the Orchestral Union and Auckland Liedertafel who in return will give a short programme of music. The excursion will take place on next Saturday, weather and other circumstances permitting. It is notified that the yachts will muster at half-past two p.m., and make a start headed by the commodore, to the rendezvous at the commodore's discretion. The p.s. Eagle will leave the ferry tee at halfpast three, conveying non-yacht owners (members of the club) and other friends, returning about half-past ten p.m. The Yacht Club provides tea, milk, and sugar.
