AN ALLEGED ABDUCTION.
On Saturday, at the Police Court, a man of middle age was brought before Mr. Bush, S.M., on a charge of having, on or about the Ist instant, alb Mangapai, taken ono Emily Young, an unmarried girl under the age of sixteen years, from the lawful charge of the informant (the girl's father), etc. Mr. Jackson Palmer was for tho prosecution, and Mr. Brassey defended. Mr. Palmer asked for a remand. Mr. Brassey objected to this being granted until tho age of the girl was proved. He had been informed that she was 18 or 19 years of age ; ib was true that she had left home, but nob with the accused. Mr. Bush said ho would remand the case until the 11th inst. Mr. Palmer objected to bail being granted. The girl was thought to be in Auckland, bub the father did nob know where. Under such circumstances it would bo unwise for tho accused to bo at large. Mr. Brassey said when the girl went into the box she would state that she was nob under the control of the accused. Mr. Palmer said Mr. Brassey evidently knew where tho girl was. Mr. Brassey said he did know, bub he declined to say. Eventually bail was allowed the accused, himself in £50, and two sureties of £50 each.
