Kuaotunp, Friday. _ The crushing plant was started this afternoon in the presence of Mr. Edwin Stanley (chairman of directors), Mr. Ceo. Robson (manager of the company), Mr. Coo. Harper (Auckland director), Mr. Swindley, and other Coromandel visitors and managers of other mines. Prior to the start a visit was paid to the mine, and all expressed themselves pleased with the excellent prospects of the reef in the main level, and in tho rise and stopea. The battery was started with the customary champagne bottle by Miss Lizzie Harper, and worked satisfactorily. The Otis crusher seems to meet expectations as to quantity treated and fineness of reduction, and the cyanide plant is very complete and perfect. The occasion is looked on here as quite a gala event, and will be celebrated by a dinner in Loram's hotel to-night.

THE KARANGAHAKE AMD WAIHI DISTRICTS. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Paeroa, Friday.

There is much oxcitement locally as to the exceedingly good prospects in Karangahake and Ohinemuri generally. The advent of Mr. Walker at Waihi is looked upon as likely to lead to still gi eater activity in the district, and already several new claims are being taken up. There is a whisper of extraordinarily good stcne being found towards the coast from Waihi, in good country. In Karangahake, Mr. Barry, of the Waihi Gold Alining Company, has a good thing in the Wealth of Nations. Assays taken on Monday resulted from £9 to £15 per ton, the former being a general sample of good bulk. It is as yet undecided whether this claim will be worked by a syndi cate, or placed on the Auckland market. Talisman holders locally are chary of parting.
