When the mail left it was stated that it had been arranged to leave Throstle in the race, simply for the purpose of making che running in the interests of Matchbox, while odds were being freely laid on Ladas'ability to win. The winner Throstle is a half sister to Common, who in 1890 woo the " triple crown" for Sir F. Johnston and Lord Alington. It is worthy of remark that these two noblemen were joint owners of Matchbox, whom they sold to Baron Hirsch on the eve of the Grand Prix de Paris for 15,000 guineas.]
