TUAKAU FERRY.
TO THE EDITOR. * Sir, —The thanks of all settlers south of the Waikato River «§ and near Tuakau are due to Mr. Glaaaon for hie opportune letter on this subject. Time' after, time in your columns travellers have remarked upon the dangerous primitive, and wholly inadequate means for crossing the river at this point. The 1 time has certainly arrived when all interested, and that means Tuakau residents and settlers, as well as selectors south of the river, should unite to ask for a bridge. Many ; people I>. believe are waiting for the opening up of that block of 45,000 acres re,ferred to by Mr. . Glasson. and lying between Whangape and Onewnero, ana if only 4s per acre additional were put' on that land it would amount to £9000 for a bridge. Of coarse, it may be said why should new comers pay for this bridge, eto. The Whanape block was put on the market at 15s per acre, and taken up immediately, and one block of it,, afterwards . forfeited, was reopened at 20s, and taken up at once. , This large native, block adjoins the Whangape, and if 15s paid the Government in the one case, it would probably do so in the other, and I' think they would have no difficulty in getting it off their hands at 20s or even more, for I understand it is first-class limestone land, same as the Whangape. As a Whangape settler I hope to see this bridge an accomplished fact very soon, and there can be no two opinions as to the great benefit it would be to all that surrounding country, and until a bridge is ' built all settlers in this neighbourhood must be terribly handicapped. Trusting this subject will be kept to the front.—l am, etc , Charles Kelsey. Qneen-street, September 6.
