THE REID MINISTRY.
SIR H. PARKES AND THE PREMIER AN OPEN REPTURE. Press Association.— Telegraph.— Sydney, August 3. The new Ministry has been finally announced as already cabled, without altera. tion. With the exception of Mr. Cook, the members ,have all had experience of.. Ministerial life. Mr. McMillan and Mr. Wise both declined to accept office owing ' to pressure of private affairs. Both cor< .>$ dially support Mr. Reid. Tlie ill-feeling which prevails between Sir '"j H. Parkes and Mr. Reid culminated in . the former rejecting as an insult an invitation • to be present at a dinner to the new Pre- J: mier. In an extremely warm letter to Mr. d McMillan, through whom the invitation | came, Sir H. Parkes says :—■" You know as well as I do that Reid is one of the most --a stubborn and unreasoning opponents of Australian federation, and you are now prepared, after all your brave professions in support of Australian Union, to accept Reid as ; • ; a leader, merely out of your benevolent) ; desire to suppress ray political existence, j: Reid's banquet is the right place for you as chairman." ; Mr. McMillan did not reply.,i f ". In an interview Sir H. Parkes said:—< : ' "I may feel it my duty to give the public a resume which will show, as regards some / people, how very little the public interest is studied, and how personal rancour and ancient animosities are continually brought to the surface by the working of a diseased , fancy."- •' '* There appears to be a strong disposition among the Labour p\rty to support the new Ministry. Several prominent members of the Labour Electoral League siate it is unlikely that , members pledged to the League will sup*. v port the Government. r ; ; • After swearing in the members, Parlia* ment will adjourn until the 28th,' in order to jjK permit the re-election of Ministers. .v • - '
