Messrs. Esam and Arthur's Weekly Report.A large amount of business has been transacted, but prices generally remain very low. Large supplies of potatoes have found their way to market, and prices are decidedly lower by at least 5s a ton. Locals have been kept back too long, and must now compete against Southern growth, shipments of which will now forward be sent regularly. The cereal market continues stagnant, maize, wheat, and oats being quitted at low rates. Fresh butter continues at a fair figure, whilst there is an improved demand for prime corned. The high price of eggs restricts business. Supplies of local hams and bacon are limited. Fruit: Shipments have been large and out of all proportion to requirements. 650 cases of Hobart fruit arrived early in the week to an already full market. Bananas and oranges ex Upolu met with better competition, distributors being fully stocked.
