Probably the smallest painting ever made is the work of the wife of a Flemish artist. It depicts a mill with the sails bent, the miller mounting the stairs "with a sack of grain on his back. • Upon the terrace where the mill stands are a horse and cart,' arid on the road leading to it several peasants are shown. The picture is beautifully finished, and every object in it very distinct, yet it is so amazingly . small that' its surface I can be covered with a grain of.corn. ,-•■■ ''■•'■■•''*•>,>
