THE IRISH MAYBRICK CASE.
The trial of Mrs. Jordon for the alleged murder of her husband has been concluded at the Down Assizes. Evidence was given to the effect thab Mr. Jordan's face after death was of a blue-black hue, and his fingers were curved in. It was stated that he asked for a doctor, but the prisoner did not tell the servant to fetch one. Sarah Toole deposed that the prisoner asked her in the pantry if Mr. Jordan showed any signs of dying, and she replied thab he would live for twenty years, whereupon the prisoner exclaimed, "He will, by , die before that!" The prisoner also asked the witness if the heads of matches would poison him, and the witness warned her that she might geb hanged. This was some time before Mr. Jordan's death. After the police had visited the house the prisoner handed to the witness a paper of strychnine, which she told her to put in the fire, and she did so. The prisoner said the finding of the poison would cause them all bo be arrested, and she raked the coals over the strychnine, and told the witness to say nothing about it. She added that nobody could say she had administered the poison, but that if poison were found in the stomach she might get penal servitude, like Mrs. Maybrick. Dr. Hodges, county analyst, deposed to examining the stomach of the deceased and findiug strychnine. The quantity was slightly in excess of whab was ordinarily sufficient to kill. Several witnesses were examined, who proved that the deceased had been drinking very heavily for a week previous to his death. Two policemen deposed to arresting the deceased in Newry on the Thursday before his death, for being helplessly drunk. He became very ill, and they were obliged to put him to bed. Other witnesses detailed a conversation they had with deceased on the day previous to his death. The deceased was then greatly depressed. The jury acquitted tho prisoner. ' >
