[FROM OtTR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Hamilton, Thursday. At the meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, to-day, there were present.*— The Chairman (Mr. A. Primrose) and Messrs. Hunt, Gavin, MeGuirk, Smith, Teasdale, Kusabs, Jones, Seddon, and Laus. The following is an abstract of the report of the secretary There are 24 recipient of charitable aid, aud 24 male inmates in the Refuge. There is a credit balance at the hank of £548 lis lOd; contributions due by local bodies, £1145 10s; pound for pound subsidy on the same, £1145 10s ; hospital fees receivable, about £300 ; endowment rents, £40; less accounts to be paid, £255 Is 4d; total, £2924 10s 6d. The expenditure for the month includes salaries and wages, £05 0s 4d; industrial schools, £14 sd; charitable i uid, £21 Is; the balance being ordinary expenditure. It was resolved to see Mr. Phillips, of Raglan, for his debt owing to the Board. There are at present fourteen inmates in the Hospital, eight males and six females. The House Committee reported with regard to the proposed store-room, that the best plan would be to erect a lean-to at the end of the dining-room. The shelves would be the chief cost, and a store-room was much needed, as things had to be packed away to their detriment. The cost would be about £40, including fittings, and consist of two roomsone for medical, and the other for ordinary stores. It was resolved to call for tenders for the next meeting. A sharp frost this morning. A popular win was that of Yum Yum in the Claudelands Steeplechase on Monday last. Yum Yum is a game little horse, and in Mr. Windsor's hands has always been run to win, and. when not winning has usually taken second or third place. She is an old Waikato horse, and was first sold as a hack for £12, and then changed backwards and forwards for £20, till she fell some few years ago into the possession of Mr. Windsor. Yum Yum had won 19 races, and a few weeks ago young Windsor was heard to say lie should like her to make up the number to 20, but it was feared she would not win the Steeplechase in the company she was to meet. She did, however, win it, and her victory was a very popular one, as the cheering which greeted it proved. The annual meetings of the Waipa and Waikato Licensing Committees are fixed for the sth and 7th June respectively. The new minister, the Rev. Mr. Mather, was introduced to the meeting of the Hamilton Christian Endeavour Society on Tuesday night. About 60 young people were present. Mr„ Mather complimented them upon the strength to which the society had increased in so short u time, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. , At the S.M. Court to-day the two cases of alleged arson against Mr. John Gordon, tor burning the tea-tree whares of the 11^ 3 evicted from the gumfields at Woodlands, were withdrawn. . „ T Application was made to receive \>. ward, of Ohaupo, into the Refuse, and a motion was- passed, voting Aly ward os per week, till there was accommodation at tne Refuge. . , There was a large muster of cattle at tne sale-yards to-day. Both Messrs. McMand Co. and Mr. W. J. Hunter sold cattle. Prices fell again to-day. The fall was more noticeable in young store stock than in good miicn enwa and forward heifers feed is fa ling off; and the grass and turnips are not looting as well as they might do in some places. Hie racehorse Potentate will not be sold on Monday. Mr. McLeod arrived from Auckland yesterday, and put in an interpleader summons, paying off the existing .pigment against the horse, which will be neard on May 18, unless settled beforehand. Te Awamutp, Thursday. Bfahop Cowie will hold a confirmation service here and at Alexandra and tohikiw on Sunday and Monday next.
