He understood thatoverSOO children were attending the Newton Easi School, some of whom came a considerable distance, and from trthor districts. He bliuughC tli»fc no master could with justice manage over 700 children. It was also unfair to thoir other teachers that through the popularity of one man children should be drawn from other districts. He moved, "That the application be declined." Mr. Muir was sure that the head master of this school did not want children from other districts, and that he placed every obstacle in their way to prevent them attending. He (Mr. Muir) thouglft it would be unwise to increase the size of the Newton East School, as should there be a change in the headmastership ths Board might find that the building was too large. Mr. Udy said he knew of many cases in which children came one or two miles in order to attend the Newton East School. Mr. Cooper's motion was carried unanimously.
