At 10 o'clock last night the Union S.S. Company's steamer Waihora arrived from Sydney, and berthed at the Queen-street

[Wharf. Her passage was somewhat prolonged owing to a strong north-east gale having prevailed for two dayn after leaving Sydney. Mr. H. C. Seigel, the purser, to whom we are indebted for late files, reports that the steamer left Sydney on the 19th instant, clearing the Heads in the evening at 8.35. Breasted the Three Kings on the 24th at 0.56 p.m. ; passed the North Cape on the same day at 5.15 p.m., and arrived as above. Experienced strong N.E. g*le to the 21st, moderate N.N. W..5.W., and westerly winds to the 34th, thence light variable winds to arrival. The Waihora leaves for Southern ports, Hobarfc, and Melbourne at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. The Union S.S. Oompauy'ssteamer To Anau, Captain W. Waller, arrived at a quarter to 7 o'ofocklastnight from Melbourne, Hobart, and Southern ports, having been delayed by meeting a atrongsouth-westerly gale across the Bay of Plenty. Mr. A. A. Armstrong, the purser, to whom we are indebted for late files, reports that the steamer left Melbourne at 5.45 p.m. on the 10ch instant, and reached Hobart at 9.30 a.m. on the 12th. Left again at 5.45 p.m. the same day, and arrived at the Bluff at 6.30 a.m. on the 16th. and Dunedin at 5 a.m. on the 17th. Left Dunedin at 345 p.m. on the 18th, Lyttelton at 9 p.m. on the 19th, Wellington at 6 p.m. on the 21st, Napier at 8 p.m. on the 22nd, and Gisborne at 10.30 a.m. on the 23rd. Rounded the East Cape at 5 p.m. the same day, passed Tiritiriat 5.15 p.m. yesterday, and arrived as above. Experienced moderate and variable winds and fine weather up the coast to the East Cape; thence across the Bay of Plenty a strong south-west gale, with head sea, followed by moderate head winds and sea to arrival. The Te Anau leaves for Sydney at 5 o'clock this evening. The steamer Richmond arrived from j Tahiti and Rarotonga yesterday morning, berthing at the Railway Wharf about eleven o'clock. The steamer brings a full cargo of fruit, pearlshell, copra, and general Island produce. The following is a report of the round trip :—The Richmond left Auckland for Rarotonga and Tahiti at noon on Wednesday, March 28, encountering light northerly and north-easterly winds, and fine weather until her arrival at Rarotonga at daylight on Thursday, April 5. Landed mails and cargo, and left for Tahiti at five p.m. the same day, with the same winds and weather, arriving at Papeelteatone p.m. on Sunday the Bth. Having completed her business in Tahiti, left again at half past five p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, and arrived at Rarotonga on Monday the 16th at daylight, leaving for Auckland at midnight the same date. Very variable winds, with squally and rainy weather prevailed during the whole passage up, ending in a strong W. to S.W breeze, with high sea when close off the coast. Arrived off the Barrier at five a.m. yesterday and berthed at the Railway Wharf as above. During the day the steamer was busily engaged in discharging her cargo, and is to leave on the return trip to Rarotonga and Tahiti on Friday evening. Yesterday morning the barquentine Handa Isle, Captain Robinson, arrived from Newcastle with a cargo of coal for the Colonial Sugar Refining Company. The master reports sailing from Newcastle on the 7th inst. and experienced light south-east, east, and east-north east winds until the 2lst, when northerly winds were met with nntil making the New Zealand coast ; since which westerly winds continued until arrival. The barquentine has gone up to the Sugar Works to discharge. Last night the Northern S.S. Company's steamer Argyle arrived from Mercury Bay and Kuaotunu. She left for the Great Barrier at midnight, and returns this evening. The Dingadee, which arrived early this morning, left Timaru at 7.15 p.m. on the 18th instant, and arrived at Wellington at 1.20 p.m. on the 20th instant. She left again same day at 1.30 p.m. for Napier, arriving there at 1 p.m. on the 21st instant. Left Napier for Gisborne at 9.15 p.m. on the same day, arriving at 8.30 a.m. on the 22nd instant. Left Gisborne at 3.30 p.m. same day,, calling at Tologa Bay, Tokomaru, Waipiro, Tuparoa, andOreti Point, arriving at Auckland at 12.55 a.m. on the 25th instant. She experienced fine weather with smooth sea as far as the East Cape; thence to arrival strong westerly winds and sea. sage. H.M.s. Katoomba arrived at Sydney on the 16th instant from Melbourne. The new crew for the warship is on board H.M.s. Crescent, now on her way from London to Sydney. Yesterday morning H.M.s. Tauranga left for Sydney. Last evening the Northern S.S. Company s steamer Waiotahi left for Tauranga and Opotiki. The Northern S.S. Company's steamer Wellington left for Whangarei last night. The auxiliary ketch Scotchman left for Whangarei last evening. The New Zealand Shipping Company's barque Rangitikei, yesterday, shipped a large number of cases of kauri gum, bales of wool, and casks-of tallow for London. The schooner Fleetwing was berthed at the breastwork to the eastward of the Quaystreet Jetty, yesterday, to discharge her ballast. The schooner Norval has berthed at the Railway Wharf, to discharge her cargo of copra. Yesterday the schooner Awanni finished discharging her cargo from the East Coast, and will commence taking in cargo to-day for the return trip, on which she leaves early next week. The schooner Waiapu arrived at Giuborne yesterday from Whangarei, with a cargo of timber, after a smart run down. Yesterday the steamer Ngungurn was transhipping coal into the steamer Tongariro. The Ngunguru leaves for Ngunguru this evening. The schooner Gisborne, from this port and Mercury Bay, has arrived at Gisborne. Yesterday the schooner Orpheus arrived at the Kaipara from Gisborne to load timber. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tongariro leaves for Napier and Southern Ports to-night. Yesterday the Tyser Company's steamer Indramayo left Wellington for Wanganni, to ship frozen meat for London. The Union S.S. Company's steamer Te Kapo, which has arrived at Sydney from Wellington has been chartered to the Adelaide Steamship Company for six months. Captain A. W. Cameron took the steamer over to Sydney. It is stated that Captain Cameron has resigned from the Union S.S. Company. The cargo steamers Celtic King and Maori King, which have frequently visited this port under charter to the Tyser Company, have been sold to the Orient S.S. Company, and are to be employed in the cargo service of that company between London and AusThe' steamers Barmen and Elberfeld, which have been regularly employed in the Australian trade of the German-Australian S.S. Company, have been sold to the HamburgAmerican S.S. Company, and will in future be employed in that trade. It has been stated that the new steamer Gothic, of the Shaw.Savill, and Albion Com- . pany, has beaten the record between this colony and London. This is an error, as the Arawa, of the same company, still holds that honor, as she made the run in 1885 in. 36 days, while the Gothic's trip occupied 12 hours longer. A large pontoon for the Ngunguru Coal Company has been constructed by Messrs. ; Meaney and Richardg, the dimensions being : Length overall, 60 feet: breadth, 16 feet; depth, 3 feet 2 inches. The pontoon is to be employed in bringing coal down the river from the mine, and has a carrying capacity of about 60 tons. The natives of Rarotonga have just completed the building of a schooner of about 120 tons register. The vessel is constructed of native woods, and has kauri spars. _ She is rigged as a fore-and-aft schooner, and is somewhat on the lines of the schooner Goldfinch, which was recently wrecked off Aitutaki about a year ago. The new vessel is named the Takitumu, and is to come to this port in charge of Captain Rennie, to be coppered. She is to bring a cargo of fruit, and may be expected to arrive in about a month's time.

THE MARIPOSA. The mail steamer Mariposa having left San Francisco on contract day is due at this port to-morrow, with the English and American mails. She leaves for Sydney a few hours after arrival, THE TYSER LINE. The agents of the Tyser line are in receipt of cable advices stating that the steamer Star of Victoria sailed from London for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand ports on the 13th inst.
