THE TOWN CLERK.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — is reported that the Town Clerk, ' Mr. P. A. Philips, haring been granted leave of absence from his duties through sickness, has been suddenly recalled, although still far from well, and has again to go the dreary round of duty. It is to be hoped that our city fathers will be able speedily to make some arrangement to allow tne Town Clerk a reasonable time to recruit. After having been in the service of the city for, I believe, upwards of 25 years, and with daily increasing duties as the city increases, it is little wonder that ill health comes on apace. The City Councillors come and go, and the Mayor has his short term of office, but the duties of the Town Clerk, like the brook, run on for ever, and increase in volume.—l am, etc., C. W.
