THE DEATH AT THE MAORI HOSTELRY.
Yestkbday afternoon at the Swan Hotel, Mechanics' Bay, an inquest was held before Dr. Philaon, coroner, into the circumstances of the death of Thos. Glen, a gold miner, who was found dead, and his face J**!* 6 * to Wood, at. the Maori hostelry, the previous evening. Mrs. Elizabeth Uevally, who was in charge of the hostelry, k u a i° l ub 1(U0 on fc,w Sunday evening sne had heard sounds of a person romitin» in one of the tenements. She did not go unto the room, but called out to whoever it was to go away or she would send for the ?° m did not sea yone at the time. The reply she SOb * Was ' " All right oiiseus. She afterwards went to the hostelry with a light. Her daughter was with her. They then saw the man lying down. There had not been the slightest noise from beginning to end. The police and, afterwards, a doctor were sent tor. j Detective Grace said he had known the deceased for the last 20 years. He would think deceased would be about 43 years of age. Deceased was given to drink, and latterly had gon« very low. When witness saw the deceased at the hostelry there were no signs of violence or disturbance. Police Constable Hutchison having given evidence as to the steps he had taken when sent for, Dr. King said he had made a post mortem examination. The deceased had suffered from consumption, and the immediate cause of death had been the bursting of a blood vessel in the lungs, A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned.
