OPAHEKE ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Opaheke Road Board was held in the Valley School on the 14th instil Present: Messrs. Whelan (chairman), Dunn, Markham, Quane, and Trail. Mr. Trail reported having examined and passed Mr. Palmers contract, and measured the old bridge near Wallice's, also the small bridge—near J. Kiely's, and recommended that a new bridge be built at Wallice's, and 9-inch pipes put at Kiely's. The Boa id agreed to have the work done as recommended, tenders returnable oil May 5. Mr. Whelan reported having examined Cummins' contract and passed it. Mr. Markham reported having examined Maketu Hill, and let the repairing to Cummins for £8, and recommended that Cummins be allowed £1 extra for further repairs. Action endorsed. Mr. Dunn reported that Sutton's Hill was dangerous to traffic. It was resolved to inspect it at the close of the meeting, and deal with it as may be found necessary. Mr. Dunn reported having measured Keaney's metal and passed the same. Action endorsed. Resolved, "That Keaney's account be paid next in rotation to debentures." The clerk reported having taken the accounts to the auditor on the 2nd of April, and the same had been audited by him. A report was received from the collector, stating that he had given instructions to the clerk of the S.M. Court to issue three summonses for outstanding rates. Action endorsed. A letter was received from Mr. Wallace calling attention to it bridge near bis property, but as this work was included iu Mr. Trail's report there was no need to discuss it. Resolved. "That the annual meeting be held on May 5, 1894, at one o'clock." This being the whole ot the business, the Board resolved itself into the Domain Board, to consider an application from Mr. Pickard, asking permission to take a few loads of scoria from the Domain. After some discussion the request was granted upon the usual terms. As this meeting was the last meeting of the present Board a feeling of relief was given expression to by more than one member; and I have it upon pretty good authority that the whole Board retires or resigns. So, I suppose, we shall see new blood in power,_but_wliß.tever body of men are iu power I think it will be impossible to do all they are asked to do, aud doubtless' there will be.plenty to grumble at them though they try to do their best,—[Own Correspondent.
