The Institute is doing a great and good work, and is worthy the grateful support of the colony." .The above is a verbatim transcript of an entry recorded on Thursday last in the visitors' book of the Institute by Sir Robert) Stout, who in conjunction with Mr. E. Mitchelson, M.H.R., and Mr. W. J. Speight, spent a considerable time in. inspecting the work carried on there. They were received by Messrs. Abbott treasurer), Reid, Thornes, Tole, Wood (members of the Board of Trustees), Ti&he (principal), and Hunt (secretary), and were shown over the grounds and buildings. The capacious schoolroom, with the teacher and pupils at work, came in for a large share of attention. The visitors were highly interested in witnessing the reading, writing, arithmetical work, etc., and their inspection afforded great satisfaction. The workshops with the adult blind busily engaged at their respective operations of basket, and mat making, netting, etc., were thoroughly investigated, and elicited eulogiums of praise, not only in j consequence of the thoroughness of the handicraft therein carried on, but also on account of the spacious and well adapted buildings in which the various occupations are plied. The airy dormitories were next visited and were also the subject of congratulation in consequence of their healthy character and condition. Tho dining and music rooms having been visited, the party were conducted to the principal's office, and Sir Robert expressed his satisfaction in the above terms, in addition to verbal comments of praise. Mr. Mitchelson recorded his interest in everything connected with the Institute. On leaving, the visitors gave vent to their feelings of profound astonishment at the present development of the work, expressing their conviction that a future of still greater success awaits the Institute.
