A tornado passed over a portion of the Bowen district. Ib appeared first in fcho shape of a waterspout, which broke on Flagstaff Hill with a loud report-, and threw hugh boulders and trees about. The tornado left a track 40 feet wide. There was a heavy rainfall at Townsville, and some parts of the town are flooded. A man named Bruce was drowned. THE MURDER OF A BANK MANAGER. ** Sydney, April 20. The Barraba murderers are reported to have been seen ten miles from the township. One of the men had a severe wound on fchft shoulder, from which blood was flowing, and be had to be supported on horseback by his mate. It is supposed the wounded man was accidentally shot by his comrade during the attack on the bank. AN ABSCONDING CLERK. /Melbourne, April 20. Advice has been received that Kemp, the late secretary to the Victorian Treasury Tender Board, who absconded after em* bezzling a large sum of money, has beau arrested in South Africa. It is generally believed he left the colony in the barque which was recently wrecked at Durban, on the east coast of Africa. A PRESBYTERIAN APPOINTMENT. Sydney, April 20. The congregation of St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church have invited the Rev. John Ferguson, of Invercargill, to succeed Dr. Steel. COLLIERY DISPUTE SETTLED. Sydney, April 20. The dispute between the owners of the Vale Colliery and the men has been settled by arbitration, and work has been resumed. BANKING LEGISLATION. « Sydney, April 20.
