NURSES HOME AT CHRISTCHURCH.

[BY TELEGRAPH — ASSOCIATION.] CHRiSTonaRCH, Thursday. The foundation stone of the Nurses Home, in connection with the Christchurch Hospital, was laid this afternoon by Mr. R. H. Rhodes. There was a large gathering, including representatives of the churches, friendly societies, and local bodies. The chairman of the Hospital Board said the home would cost £4000. Of this amount the Board must raise by donation £1800, a substantial portion of which had been already received or promised. These donations would be subsidised by the Government by 24s for every £1. Besides which the Government would make a special grant of £500. It was hoped in addition to providing healthy quarters for the nurses at the Hospital to establish the leading nursing school in. New Zealand, so that in the near future there would be a fully trained staff for private nursing.
