Company's steamer Taieri , left for Sydney last evening. Last evening the Northern S.S. Company's ' steamer Argyle left for Kuaotunu, Mercury Bay, and Tairua. She returns to-morrow night. The Northern S.S. Company's steamer Chelmsford left for Whangamata and Whakatane last evening. Yesterday morning the Union S.S. Company's steamer Talune went down to Drunken Bay and had her compasses adjusted. She returned during the torenoon, and took in ft quantity of cargo. She leaves for Southern ports, llobart, and Melbourne this afternoon. The Norwegian barque West Australian sailed for Haabaii, Friendly Islands, yesterday morning, where she loads copra for Europe. Yesterday morning H.M.s. Tauranga came out of the Calliope Dock and berthed at the Railway Wharf to take in water and stores. To-day she takes in a quantity of Ngunguru coal. The schooner Welcome berthed at the Queen-street Wharf yesterday, and will commence loading for her island cruise to-day. Captain Kennedy will have charge of the Terranora which takes up the Hinemoa's work, leaving Wellington for Northern lighthouses on Saturday. Yesterday morning the brigantine J. C. Hamlen, jun., hauled out into the stream. She will probably sail for New York torn arrow. This morning the Northern S.S. Company's steamer Clansman is to arrive from Mangonui, Whangaroa, and Russell. She leaves for Tauranga at seven o'clock this evening. The mail steamer Alameda is expected to arrive from Sydney this afternoon. She leaves for Apia, Honolulu, and San Francisco to-morrow afternoon. The Devonport Ferry Company's steamer Eagle is out of the Auckland Graving Dock, after cleaning and painting. On Wednesday night the Union S.S. Company's steamer Taviudi, from this port, arrived at Wellington. She goes on to Port Chalmers for general overhaul. The schooner Waiapu, for Gisborne, with a cargo of timber from Whangarei, left Marsden Point yesterday moraine, where &he had been windbound for a couple of days. The schooner River Hunter has sailed from Newcastle for the Bluff. To-morrow the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tongariro is expected to arrive from London with general merchandise, and on discharge leaves for Southern ports to load for London. The barque Hudson sailed from Napier for London on Wednesday night. The Government steamer Hinemoa, from this port, arrived at Wellington yesterday, after the fastest passage she has ever made between the two ports. Early this morning, the Northern S.S. Company's steamer Wellington is to arrive from Whangarei. She leaves again for the same place to-night at 10.30 o'clock. Yesterday the Union S.S. Company's steamer Ohau arrived at Westport from this port. The Union S.S. Company's steamer Takapuna is timed to arrive at Onehunga at 9 o clock to-night from, the South and New Plymouth, with the outward mails for transhipment to the mail steamer Alameda. The American barque E. L. May berry is about due from New York, via Port Chalmers and Nelson, she having left the latter port for Auckland last week. The new lighthouse at Wailaugilala Island (Nanuka Passage, Fiji) at the eastern entrance, was of considerable convenience to the K.M. s.s. Warrimoo on her last trip in | entering the group from Vancouver and Hon- j olulu. The Warrimoo made the island in the 1 early evening, and sighting the light 20 miles off, was abreast it at 8.30 p.m. The people on board were of course considerably interested in the new light, and expressed themselves in warm terms at the enterprise thus shown by the local Government in so smartly providing a lighthouse for the convenience of the new mail service. THE HINEMOA. Wellington, December 19.— Hinemoa, from Rarotonga, via Auckland, arrived at four o'clock this afternoon, and leaves at 5 p.m, to morrow for Lyttelton, Bluff, and Auokland Isles. . Business in shipping circles remains quiet, and freights are both scarce and low. Several vessels are at anchor in the stream awaiting favourable charters, shipowners not caring to take the rates at present offered. 'J-he movements of vessels during the month have been as follow March 28 the steamer Richmond left for Tahiti and Rarotonga with the usual consignments of meat, produce, etc. She is due back again to-morrow, and is announced to leave for the same ports about Wednesday next. The same day the barquentine Ysabel sailed for the Friendly Islands with general merchandise. She has since arrived at her destination, and has been chartered to proceed to the Phoenix Group to load guano for this port, * nd " expected to arrive about June next. On the 30th the mail steamer Alameda arrived from aan L< rancisco, Honolulu, and Apia, with the English and American mails, being one day after contract time, she having left the Californiauporfc late owing to a delay in the Atlantic steamer. The barqtieotinij Waitemata and the brig Vision both arrived the same day from Newcastle with coal. The former has sailed for the Kaipara to load timber for Sydney, and the Vision to Mercury Bay on a similar errand. On the 30th the Union S.S. Company's ! steamer Taviuni left for Suva and Levuka with a miscellaneous cargo of timber, meats, produce, etc. She returned on the loth with fruit,etc., and has proceeded to Port Chalmers to undergo an overhaul. Her trip to Fiji is to be taken up by the 0\ r alau, leaving here on the 26th instant. On the 31st the barque Wenona, from Port Ketnbla, and the Norwegian barque West Australian from Newcastle, both arrived with cargoes of coal. The Wenona has since sailed for Rocky Island via Thursday Island, having been chartered by Messrs. J. T. Arundel and Co., to shift the plant from the guano depot at the former island to an adjacent one. The West Australian sailed on the 19th instant for Haabai, Friendly Islands, to load copra for Europe. On the 3rd instant the barquentine Rio sailed for Newcastle in ballast. On the sth the Union S.S. Company's steamer Upolu arrived from Samoa and Tonga with fruit, etc. She left again for the same ports on the 11th, with a large general cargo. On the 11th the Tyser Company's steamer Indramayo arrived from London via Melbourne and Sydney with general merchandise. She left for Napier on the 14th, and is now at Gisborne, from which port she proceeds to Wellington. On the 16th the Union S.S. Company's steamer Taieri arrived from Newcastle, with a cargo of coal for the Auckland Gas Company. Sue left for Sydney last night. The American barque Lottie Moore, from New York, via Wellington, with a part cargo of general merchandise is now discharging, and on completion loads up with kauri gum and flax for Messrs. Arnold, Cheney, and Co. On the 17th the Government steamer Hiuetnoa returned from her cruise to the Islands with His Excellency the Governor and party. She left the same night for the Auckland Islands, to warn the Norwegian sealer Antarctic, which has left Melbourne on a sealing expedition to Southern New Zealand, against sealing at these islands. The Hawaiian brigantine Douglas has been bought by Capt. G. S. orris and others, of this port, for £900. She has beer, renamed the Indiana, and sailed for Long Island on the IStli to load guano for Launceston, taking the cargo intended for the wrecked brig Eillau Donan. The brifantine J. C. Hamlen, jun., is loaded with kauri gum and flax for New York and will probably proceed to sea to-morrow. The cutter Janet has sailed for Long Island to act as tender to the Indiana, and on completion of that work proceeds on a beche-de-mer fishing expedition to the islands. She is expected to return in about six months. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tongariro, from London, is now about due at this port, and on discharge of cargo will proceed Sonth to load for London. The steamer Buteshire, which has been loading frozen meat at various Australian ports, is timed to' arrive here on Tuesday next to take in a consignment of frozen meat for London, and leaves for the South to complete her loading. She is under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company. The American barque E. L. Mayberry, from New York, via Port Chalmers and Nelson, is now due at this port, and follows the Lottie Moore on the berth for New York, 'lhe New Zealand Shipping Company's barque Rangitikei is being steadily loaded, and should soon be a full ship. The barquentine Adelaide has sailed from the Thames for Sydney with & cargo of white pine timber. The American barquentine Elinor Vernon ha* been sold to Mr. John Mill, of port Chalmers, for £900, and is to be turned into a coal hulk at Wellington, On the 12th inst. the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer .Coptic arrived at Wellington from London, via way ports. She is at present taking in cargo at Napier, and proceeds to Lyttelton to finish for London. On the 16th the Tyser Company's steamer Hawke's Bay left Lyttelton for London with a full cargo of frozeu meat, produce, etj, The schooner Clansman is now on her way from Newcastle to this port with a cargo of coal, To-morrow the Colonial Sugar Refilling Company's steamer Fiona is expected to arrive from Brisbane with a cargo of raw sugar. THE WARSHIPS. The Curagoa arrived at this port, from the South, on March 31, and was ordered on the 18th instant to proceed to Samoa, on account of the disturbances amongst the natives._ The Tauranga has been in the Calliope Dock for cleaning, painting, and overhaul. She came out yesterday, and is taking in stores and water at the Railway Wharf, and leaves shortly for Sydney. Th« Rapid left Sydney for New Zealaud on the 14tn instant, and is to take the Tauranga'B place on this station. At last advices the following ships were iu port at Sydney : —Orlando, Boomerang, Ivatooniba, Wallaroo. Mildura, Royalist;, Ringdove, Lizard, and Paluma. The Dart is in Tasmanian waters, surveying. The Royalist will probably proceed to the Islands shortly. The German warship Falke lias sailed from Sydney for Samoa. The Russian war cruiser, Kreisser, arrived at Melbourne from Capetown, on the 3rd instant, and after a short stay proceeded on to Sydney. She leaves for Noumea, shortly, proceeding thence to join the Russian Pacific Squadron in China waters.
