OTAMATEA SHOW.

The .second show in connection with the Ofcdmktea/Pastoral, Agricultural,-and Industrial Association was, held on Friday, the ; 16th March. The weather >was fine. On this occasion, as. well as last year, a large crowd of people came together, many coming from long { distances, thus showing that , the Otamatea' Pastoral, Agricultural,' and'lndustrial Association is already pretty/widely known. The ' management '{committee consisted of the following ladies and gentleman, viz., Meßdames • Snelling, ; Mountaine, Misses M. Davies, F. Mason, " o.' Huband, and H. Rowsell, Messrs. F. Colbeck (president), W. H.* Snelling, G. Linnell, H. Worthington (vice-presidents), J. Hemphill (treasurer), W. Chadwin (secretary), H. McMurdo, S. Taylor, J. Causer, J. Smith, A. Massey, J. Rogers, U. Davies, F. Mould, W. Rowseil, W.', E. Huband, T. A. Huband, and tV. A. ; Birt. ; y All \ the"juclges,';both-:ladies ■ and gentlemen, came from far outside the district, me thing which is perhaps worthy of mention here, and which also points ;to the improvements made inour county roads,'is that two of'' the *■ judges, Messrs. A. Harris and F. . Dibble"; of Auckland, drove through with a handsome turnout of four-in-hand. ;• Returning to the subject of the show : the exhibits in every department were numerous, and the arrangements in connection with all departments were considered by visitors to be first-. class.>* The : exhibits of ; horses, cattle, and sheep'-' amply justified 3 the .remarks-| of the judges, that for- quantity -and quality they were a credit to the district; and many of themquite' fit to 1 ' compete at 1 the Auckland show. :-■ Inside the . hall % the exhibits were good, and all kinds of vegetables well represented, most of the samples being full-grown, sound, and well formed. As to the industrial department; which was :.. entirely "under the management of the ladies' committee, both the ' style and finish of the exhibits, as well as the arrangement of them, did credit to our lady friends.. ; Some of i the exhibits particularly deserve mention, as considerable : time and patience must have been exercised in getting them up to such | a finish;" viz., the collections of kauri gum exhibited by Messrs. Riatoul and ; Causer, also a piece of shell-work by Mrs. J. Rogers, and some j fretwork by Mr. Lockwood. Some grapes, exhibited by •■; Mr. Sharp, of Mangawai, were very fine indeed, but unfortunately came in too late for competition. One departure from • the.' old • order of things was that the committee decided to have the judging done' (in the agricultural and industrial departments) the day before the show, and it proved a great success, as the hall was open to the public the whole of the day, thus giving plenty of ti •-. 'or the careful; inspection of exhibits, as rithout the usual \ overcrowding just ? ■ .re the time for removal of exhibits. - " ; , ' The following is the '-•.-. _. V ;'. , PRIZE LIST. - ,'-'•
