COMIC OPERA SEASON.
The fame of Offenbach's charming comic opera " Madame Favart" as performed by the Auckland Amateur Opera Club in rehearsal ; for the season which opens ab .the Opera House to-morrow (Tuesday) night, has gone abroad throughout the length and breadth of Auckland, and a long and brilliant run seems to be fully assured. Those who were privileged to attend the dress rehearsal on ; Saturday evening" last were unanimously of opinion the Club have never, done anything better. The dressing of the opera is bright and charming, and there is such a variety of colour in, the ' costumes of both ladies and gentlemen thab some very Eretty effects are secured. :, The last reearsal went off from beginning Jto end without a hitch,' and the captivating solos and ; grand choruses, with, which the opera abounds, .; were sung ; ".'faultlessly. The libretto is light and racy throughout, and introduces a good deal .of the comic element. , The' features introduced are the beautiful duet, "In the Dusk of the Twilight," by Mr. John .V Fuller ; and • Mrs. Cooper; the new i song, "Espanita," in which r Mr, Fuller has a splendid opening for display of his fine tenor voice, and a Ca'chucardanced by eight young ladies to bewitching music. The solo and concerted 'music in the opera;itself ;• is in Offenbach s best ■ style, and ,: is sure .to' become ; very popular. The booking and sale, of tickets has been so ■ large that the committee have decided to open the doors at each; performance at 7 p.m., in order to avoid un. necessary crowding. , ■ , •<
