FIRES ON SHIPS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] < ■ Christchuroh, Friday. At ft meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-day, attention was drawn to the frequent fires recently on deep-sea ships and steamers. A committee was appointed to interview the local representatives of the New Zealand Shipping Company, and the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, with reference to the provision of effectual means of extinguishing outbreaks of fire in vessels.
