ARRIVAL OF THE PREMIER IN WAIKATO.
TAWHIAO ASICS AN INTERVIEW.
MR. SEDDON CONSENTS.

The Hon. R. J, Seddon, Premier and Native Minister, accompanied by the Hon. James Carroll, arrived at Mokau on Thursday evening from Taumaranui, The Premier came down to Kuiti by rail and held a meeting with the natives yesterday morning, who gave him a cordial reception. A discussion took place with regard to native lands, the natives desiring that the present restrictions should be removed and their lands dealt with under the Native Lands Acquisition Act of last session. The Premier came to no decision, leaving the natives to think the matter over carefully. The Premier then went on to Otorohanga, where Wahanui and other chiefs had an interview with him. Mr. Seddon will probably reach Auckland on Monday. The following telegram from our Hamilton correspondent shows that arrangements are being made for a meeting between Tawhiao and the Premier, which may bo productive of good, and lead to an amicable settlement of sundry outstanding questions •
Hamilton, Friday. A messenger, Taua te Waharoa, son of the famous chief Wirema Tamihaua, the Kingmaker, was sent to Mr. W. A. Graham, by Tawhiao from bis settlement at Pouawhera, asking that the Premier would meet Tawhiao and other leading chiefs at Hukanui on Monday morning, and that if he could not meet them at Hukanui they would meet him at Hamilton. Mr. Graham telegraphed to the private secretary at Otorohanga informing him of Tawniao's message, and received a reply that the Minister would be passing through Hamilton morrow (Saturday morning) when ho would receive Tawhiao or any native chiefs who might wish to see him. The messenger was despatched back to Pouawhera with this intelligence for Tawhiao, who, it is understood, will be at Hamilton on Monday. ' ■
