CONCLUSION OF THE INQUEST.
VERDICT - OF .WILFUL MURDER, , \ $?*' TELEGRAPH,—PREB3 ASSOCIATION,]i j * •V'l'i. • ■!'*.'< Dunedin, Monday. f The inquest touching the death of William Mudge, stabbed in South Dunedin on' Chris Eve, was concluded to-day. : so Constable Dale in < his- evidence said he, had attended ah ambulance class and knew how to give first aid. There was no bleeding when he examined Mudge'a wound; and' though at first he thought -it was only a flesh wound, he made a pad and bandaged' the leg. He deposed to Sergeant Brown finding a knife with '! blood stains in Dobson's pocket. When . Kufner was arrested on the charges of murder, and cautioned, he said; "I know ; nothing about it—all right." A knife was found in his pocket, bub there was no blood on it!, and no blood stains on his hands or cloth- ; ing.... Kufner. was, nob arrested till two hours after the murder. j Sergeant Brown gave evidence' as to arresting Dobson j who, when told there had beep a row, said » " Yes, I only did it in selfdefence. , Seven of them set, on us,; and I did it to protect a woman." When the knife was taken from his pocket he said : '' That is ray knife } the one I used in selfdefence. I'll tell the truth if I swing for lb. A man can only' die once." ■ The coroner having summed up the jury returned a verdict "That deceased' died rough loss of blood from a wound in the left thigh, the wound having been inflicted either by Richard' Dobaon or Eberhardt Kufner; arid that these two men are guilty of /wilful murder." . A rider was added Stating that each suburban police station should be connected with the central tele, phone station. • The accused were then committed for trial. ?' -
