POLICE COURT.— Friday. [Before Messrs. O. Mays and D. G. MacDonnell, J.P.'s.] Drunkenness.—One firsb offender was fined 5s and costs, and one was discharged with a caution. Hugh Given, charged with drunkenness, was remanded for a week for medical treatment. , Police Offences Act.—An old man named David Mills was charged with being found, without lawful excuse, on the premises of William Earle Ryan, of Newmarket. Sergeant Gamble conducted the prosecution. The accused said he was very hard up, smd had no place to sleep, so he sought the shelter of the stable. The Bench sentenced him to seven days' imprisonment. Landlady and Tenant. —An elderly woman named Mary Lenenhan was charged with having on the 28th December unlawfully assaulted and beaten Mary Blanch Lord, ab Archhill. Mr. W. Napier appeared for the complainant, and Mr. G. N. Brassey for the defendanb. . The contending parties live at Archhill, and -the complainant occupies a house belonging to the defendant. On the day in question the defendant went to visit her tenant. A quarrel arose between the parties, when the alleged assault took place. The complainant stated that the defendanb had caught her by the hair, and also toro her dress. A number of witnesses gave evidence. The case for the defence , was a denial of the assault, the defendant contending that she was the most abused. The Bench considered an assaulb had been committed, and fined the defendant 10s, and costs £2. '
