(bt telegraph.— association.] Wellington, Friday. . In the Magistrate's Courb, this afternoon, the " tote " oases, arising out of the police raid on Boxing-day, were heard. The first case, thab againsb • James P. Wallace, Manners-street, of accopting a half-ticket on Rosefeldb for the ' Auckland, Cup after the telegraph ; office was closed, - was (jlismisssd, on the ground that Wallace was absent ab the time, and if his wife, who accepted the money, had broken the law, it was for the police to show thab lb had been done. The " information against J. IH. Simons was also dismissed, lb being proved that the defendant was outside of his premises when laying the wager and taking the money. In the case I against Robert ?W. Paterson, the defendant proved thab be bad some £40 on Rosefeldb in the Auckland Cup, and alleged that, the \ client arriving after the telegraph office had closed,' he gave him s half-share 'm Rosefeldb. i, : The magistrate reserved his decision until Tuesday.
