Allkgbd Larceny.—An elderly woman named Mary Wakeham was charged with haying on the Ist November stolen one child's dress valued at 6s 6d, the property of Ellen Bennett. There was also a second charge of having stolen on December 2"} one jacket valued at 4s 6d. The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges, though she admitted having sold one of the article* which had been given to her. Mr?. Bennett deposed that she kept a draper's shop ir Victoria-street. She had frequently seer the accused in her shop. Witness would never serve her, and always told her to keep away. On December 27 and on Novem ber 1 she missed certain articles. On booth occasions the accused had been in the shojf previous to the theft. Corroborative evi' dence was given by Mrs. Bennett's Bon, s lad of 14 years of age, and Mrs. Mills. Evidence as to the sale of one of the articles was given by Mrs. Buttenshaw and Catherine Taylor. Constable Bailey deposed tc arresting the accused. The Bench convicted the accused on the charge of stealing the dress, and sentenced her to two months imprisonment. The second charge was dismissed.
