• [by telegraph.— correspondent.] ! Wellington, Thursday. THK AGENT-GENERAL. fa is reported and generally believed that Sir W. Perceval desires to return to the colony ou account of Lady Perceval's continued ill-health. I: follows that he would relinquish his office of Agent-General in London if he were to give effect to his wish in this respect. Lady Perceval is a Wellington lady. This report has revived the public interest in the succession to this office. {Nothing further has been said of late about Sir P. Buckley's visit to Europe. It was thought that he would willingly accept the office. Sir P. Buckley it is stated sees " rocks ahead" for the Government in the coining session of Parliament, and cannot be spared, it is said that the Hou. Mr. Reeves has a great anxiety to be appointed K o this position. The rumour that is prevalent requires first to be confirmed. POMAHAKA BLOCK. Plans of this block, the purchase of which has occasioned such bitter controversy in Otago, are being prepared, and the block will be divided into sections of 200 and 300 acres, and let upon lease in perpetuity at 2s 6d and 3s 6d an acre. PATENTS. Six hundred ,and twenty-four patents, and 325 trade marks, have been issued during the year. DAIRY INDUSTRY. Mr. Valentine, the dairy expert, on his way from England to the colony, has been summoned from Melbourne to attend the Hon. Mr. McKensie during his visit to the South for the inspection of creameries, cheese factories, etc. DEEP-LEVEL MINING. Mr. Murray, the geologist and mining expert in the service of the Government of Victoria, will arrive in the colony about the 15th instant, to inspect and report on New Zealand mines.
