THE LIGHTHOUSE MISSION.

3 We invite our readers' attention to the ex« { istenpe of . the Lighthouse Mission, ! the l sixteenth annual report of which is before \ us. Its operations cover the whole of Aus- } bralasia. Packets of undenominational t periodicals and tracts are sent each month to 148 lighthouse stations and. lightships, 9 distributed .as : follows, viz. Queensland,; 4 39; Mew Zealand,' 30 ; New South Wales, 25 ; Victoria, 18 ; South Australia,' 14; i ; Tasmania, 13; Western Australia, 9. ; These : packet through the courtesy of the steam-, 2 ship companies, are convoyed free of charge 3 to the several Marine Boards, and. by them i, forwarded gratuitously to their respective s stations. .The papers sent are all new, and selected with a view to commend our 1 Saviour's-love,^avoiding: controversial sub- } jepts,' the desire being to render them' i acceptable to all denominations. The misJ sion is.in no sense eleemosynary, bub simply an expression of empathy with and interest in our fellow-colonists who are exi eluded s from this many privileges we enjoy, » and through whose vigilance by day ana by night we.on land are protected against un--1 friendly surprises, and: those at sea warned of.danger or directed to shelter, or through' 2 whose ' heroism aid is afforded in timet) of 5 peril. By the financial statement ib appears that, like 'so •' many other- Christian • efforts, the balance is on , the wrong side, ; and at this 'festive season, when the love of ; God in Christ 5 will ;be prominent in ' rain's minds,' we abrong;ly J commend this work to i .(he consideration of all;whose surroundings « are more favourable,' 1 and ' whoso' anticipa- •' tions of y joyful reunions 'can v hardly ;be 5 shared in by very ; many of our lighthouse i keepers' in their lonely homes. The hop. ' treasurer is • Mr. James Bulstrode, Hilling- [ don, Spring Hill, near. Kyneton, Viotoria,; i, by- whom subscriptions will be most thank- • fully f received, and ■ ■ immediately; acknowI lodged. P. 0.0. may be '[ made ' payable either at Kyneton or Melbourne. sv\
