The Figaro, commenting on the successful laying of the cable to Noumea, contends that it strikes at the supremacy hitherto enjoyed by England ip the making and laying of cables. Brisbane, October 18. The cable between Queensland and New Caledonia has been opened for transmission of messages. We have received the following from the Telegraph Department:—Our Wakapuaka offices advises that " Cable communication for the transmission of public business has now been established with New Caledonia."
