There are 400 women employed in the Government salt mines in the Punjaub. Their work consists in carrying head-loads, moving trucks, and other labour supplementary to the actual cutting or mining, which is done by men. A man while selling jewellery by auction in Blackburn the other day threw dozens of gold watches amongst the crowd. The man, who was taken charge of by the police as a lunatic, was said to have inherited and spent several fortunes.
