[by telegraph.— own correspondent.] Thames, Monday. This afternoon a child two years of ago, son of Mr. J. Nolan, of Sealey-streeb was taken to the hospital having bean struck with a stone by a lad who was playing in the street. The little one was, struck between the eyes and a nasty cut inflicted, which was dressed by Dr. Williams at the hospital. About four months ago the Charitable Aid Board relegated to the general purposes committee the whole subject of relief to children for consideration and report. The committee met in due course, and as a result of their deliberations a reporb was submitted at the meeting of the Board to-night, stating that they intend at next meeting recommending that the Thames Orphanage be closed on December 31 noxt, the intention being to have children maintained at the Auckland institution.

The body found in Kauaeranga Riurer yesterday afternoon proved to be that of the man John Aitken, who had been missing since Friday last. Ib appears deceased hud been given to despondent turns, and complained of being unable to sleep. He hail consulted several doctors, but none had been able to do any good for him, either here or in Auckland. Deceased was a single man over 50 years of age, and a native of Scotland. , An inquest was held this after-noon,-when a verdict of found drowned was returned.
