[BY TELEGRAPH.-- SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. The Public Accounts Committee have amended the draft reporb on the Midland Railway Company's proposals. They will now recommend that the contract b6 amended so as to provide that in lieu of the land grants being made to the company on account of work executed hereafter, debentures of corresponding value, plus 15 per cent, of the original value of the land, be issued to the company, bearing interest at the rate of 8$ per cent, per annum. Such issue 19 to be conditional on the company surrendering its right to select land within the reserved area of over five and a-half million acres after deducting the quantity to which they are entitled or. may be entitled for works in progress, an extension of time not exceeding five years to be granted from the signing of the new contract. Should the company so desire, the debentures may be deposited with the Public Trustee to be issued to the company in 20 half-yearly instalments. lb is considered doubtful whether the House will accept the report. The Canterbury Industrial Association has written to the Premier, each of the Canterbury members, and the chairman of the East and West Coasts Railway League, urging the desirableness of getting work on the Midland Railway resumed as speedily as possible.
