THE WORKING AND STRICT SCHOOL AVERAGE.
[BY TELEGRAPH. SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. The measles epidemic has induced the Minister for Education to relax the strict average of attendance at the public schools in favour of the working averages, and a notification of the Order-in-Council lias been gazetted. The Minister informs me that h( is prepared to allow a fair trial to this return to the old system, bub it resolves itself, ox course, into a matter of money. I under stand that ib is hoped that the results may show that the cost of the variation of tho system will not exceed £6000 per annum,
