Pakson, summoned for not furnishing income tax returns to the department, said he had since done so, and found his income was within the exemption limit. He was fined 5s and costs. Sunday. The annual report of the Star Boating Club shows its numerical strength to be .343 members. The receipts for the year were £1800, and the expenditure £1690. The assets amount to £2663, and the liabilities to £919. At a meeting at Karori it was decided to proceed with the survey of the proposed electric tramway to connect the city and Karori, The Polhill Gully route is the most favoured as tapping a portion of the city not now connected with the ordinary tram service, and the meeting considered it was only equitable that the loan for the construction of the lino should be borne by both municipalities. Otaki, Saturday. The State school was burned down this morning. The regalia and jewels belonging to the Freemasons, Oddfellows, and Knights of Labour were destroyed. There was no insurance on the building, and the loss is estimated at £150. The Masonic lodge property destroyed is valued at £50. Westport, Saturday. The coal export tor the week ended today was 7058 tons.
