BIRKENHEAD AND NORTHCOTE FRUITGROWERS' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. On Monday evening the annual meeting took place. The retiring president, Mr. J. G. Kay, occupied the chair. In the unavoidable absence of Mr. Hardy, the secretary, Mr. Robertson, was appointed secretary for the meeting. A report from the Government Analyst in Wellington was road, giving the results of several tests of soil made on behalf of Messrs. Glimmer Bros., of Hel Iyer's (reek. It was decided to place the report on the minute book for future reference. A letter was read from the Otiihuhu Fruitgrowers' Association, asking this Association to support, their (the Otahuhu Association) resolution, which litis been forwarded to Wellington, urging the Governtnen tnot to introduce any anti-codlin moth legislation, but to leave the matter as it is, and urging the Government to appoint a duly qualified entomologist. It was decided to support the action and resolution of the Otahuhu Association. In regard to the Noxious Weeds Act,, it was decided that Mr. Jackson Palmer, M.H.R., be requested to strongly oppose this measure now before Parliament; also, that he be asked to oppose the Codlin Moth Act. The treasurer, Mr. Fiddler, read the annual balancesheet, which showed the total receipts for the year to have been £58 lHs (id on both general and show account,, leaving a small credit balance of His 7Ad. The present membership of the association is 56. Tho balance-sheet, anil report as read were adopted, subject to their being audited. Messrs. White and Bell were appointed auditors. Tho Mayor of Birkenhead was elected patron. Mr. J. Tonar, being tho only one nominated for the position of president, was declared unanimously elected. The newly-elected president then took the chair. Messrs. Porter, Flewellyn, Arthur Chambers, and H. Jones were nominated as vice-presidents, and the two first-named gentlemen declining, the two latter were declared duly elected. Mr. Robertson was appointed secretary ; Mr. Fiddler was unanimously re-elected treasurer ; and the following gentlemen were duly elected members of committee : Messrs. 0. Chambers, Fuller, A. Wilson, 'I. .Shepherd, C. Clark, Ivlmoti Is, J. <i- Kay, <;. A. Green, 11. Flewellyn.A. E. Riddle, Charles Barber, and Tugby. In respect to the proposed amalgamation of the .Fruitgrowers' Associations in the Auckland province, a large number of replies had been received. All were in favour of the proposal. Consideration of the subject was deferred till a special meeting. The committee recommended that no action be taken in tho matter of the Drainage Act; and it was resolved to hold the annual social and concert on Wednesday, tho 23rd of August. A sub-committee was appointed to carry out tho details. It was agreed that the annual show be held not latter than the first Saturday in March, 1594.
