[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Thames, Wednesday. A LAD named Frederick Courtney was charged at the Police Court to-day with throwing stones and using indecent language, and was fined £5 and costs for the former offence, and sentenced to two months' imprisonment for the latter. He not having tho means to pay the fine ho receive an additional month instead. The language used by accused was exceedingly bad.
Hawera, Wedlay.
The bottling shed of Johnston, brewer, was destroyed by tire this mrrning. The loss is roughly estimated at £250. No insurance.

In the Divorce Court to-day a decree nisi was granted in alio case of Ward v. Ward, the wife's petition for divorce from Win. Neville Wad, solicitor and barrister, of Otaki, on the ground of desertion and adultery. At the inquest today on Mrs. Simcox, at Carterton, a verdict was returned that deceased died from heart disease, accelerated by a doe of belladonna administered through a mi-lake in labelling the bo'tie. A rider was added that in the opinion of the jury all poisons should bear a distinctive label.
The City Council proceeded to day against a firm of contractors for not putting footings into wall-, as provided in the building refutation*. The latter, in defence, protested that, under the regulation-, no one will be able to erect a four-storey building within It inches of each side of the boundary, unices lie can arrange for a common wall, which, on the reclaimed land, where tho present offence i" alleged to have been committed, is impossible Tho Magistrate held that there had been a breach of the regulation!", but, as the plaintiffs' counsel did not press the charge, only a nominal penalty was inflicted. In th'; case MacC'urthy v. the Corporation, claim £500 for alleged trespass in connection .vith the laying of a newer, arising out of an old dispute between the parties, judgment wan given for the City Council. In reply to a suggestion from the Auckland Ballance Memorial Committee, it has been decided to erect a statue and found a scholarship if sufficient funds remain. Tho Education Board has decided that schools must remain open despite the poor attendance. DUNKDIK, Wednesday. The outbreak of measles resulted in a reduction of £100 in the capitation received by the Education Board, while the decrease in teachers' salaries was only £50. I.he Board will apply to the Minister of Education to »rant payment on attendance in trie pluvious quarter. . A woman named Sarah Ann Smith a widow, died suddenly at Port Chalmers today. She had been drinking all the morning with another woman, and it is believed that she tell down and was suffocated. The Dunadin branch of the knights of Labour protest against lbs proposal to part with the freehold of a part of the Cheviot estate. ._
