Company's steamer Australia, Captain John Gibb, arrived from Picton, Wellington, Napier, aud Gisborne with a e*u-go of wheat, barley, etc. Mr. E. R. Stock, the purser, reports that the steamer left, Picton at 3 p.m. on the 13th instant, Wellington on tho 14th, and Napier at 7 ip.m. on the 15th. Arrived at Gisborne at 6 11.111. on the 16th and sailed again at 8., - 10 a.m. Called off Tokomaru, Waipiro, and Tuparoa, but owing to the heavy sea was unable to communicate, Rounded the East Cape at 7 p.m. and arrived off Wharigaparoa at 10.30 p.m. Transhipped over-carried passengers to the s.s. Kanieri sheltering there and sailed again at midnight for Auckland. Passed through Hole in Wall at 12.40 and arrived as above. The steamer Richmond will go into th< Auckland Graving Dock for cleaning, paint ing, etc. She is to leave for Tahiti and Raro tonga on Wednesday. On discharge of her Island cargo th< schooner Jessie Niccol will go to an anchor in the stream, where she will remain foi the present. As soon as the weather moderates the cutter Eleanor is to sail for the Bay ol Plenty. The schooner Clansman has gone to an anchorage in the stream. The ketch Elsie was in Whangaparoa when the fl*s. Australia called there on Friday. At the Kauri Timber Company's Mills the brig Vision is loading timber for Adelaide, proceeding to the Thames to complete. On discharge at Adelaide she loads with salt for this port. The barque Vivid and barquentine Waitemat.i, from Kaipara with timber, both arrived at Sydney on Saturday last. On Saturday evening the Uniou S.S. Company's steamer Taieri left the Bluff for Sydney. This evening the Union S.S. Company's steamer Upolu leaves for Tonga and Samoa, The barque Examiner, for Kaipara, and the brigantiqe Sarah and Mary, for the Thames, will both sail as soon as the wind changes. The Union S.S. Company's steamer Australia has been doing some smart travelling lately, aa will be seen from the following - She sailed from Wellington at midnight on the 12th instant, and arrived at Pieton on the 13th at 6 a.m. Took on board 180 tons of grain, and sailed at 3 p.m., reaching Wellington at 10.30 p.m. Sailed again at 4.30 p.m. on the 14th, and arrived at Napier at 4 p.m. on the 15th, leaving again at 7 p.m. Gisborne was teaohed at 630 a.m. on the 16th, and after a stay of two hours the steamer left aeain, arriving in harbour at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Tho fine steam yacht Imogen has been sold to a Greek owner for about £13,000. She was build on the Clyde in 1890. and fitted with quadruple engines of 100 horsepower, registers 400 tons, and measures 157 feet by •24 feet by 14$ feet. THE CRUISE OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS. At nine o'clock on Saturday night the Melanesia!) Mission yacht Southern Cross, Captain James Bougard, arrived in harbour from a cruise among the islands, bringing as passengers the Revs. Dr. Codrington and fl. Welehman, and several others. The following is a of the round voyage : —Left Auckland ior Norfolk Island on April 3, and steamed nearly the whole way, the winds being light and easterly the first part and light westerly the latter part of tho passage. Anchored in Cascade Bay on tho 7th, and left for the Islands on the llth, taking on board the Revs. Comins and Cullwick, and Mr. Forrest with 70 Melanesiaus, also a quantity of kunieras from the Norfolk Island people, to be distributed amongst the Islands as required Arrived at Arag in the 16th, and Opa ou the 17th ; found the Kev. Mr. Brittain quite well. The hurricane, tlthough very severe, does not appear to nave done so much damage in this district « we were led to believe. After relieving ;he natives, who were short of food, ana catering the ship, we proceeded on our way a the Banks Group, leaving Mr. Cullwick at Vlota on the IMth, and Mr. Forrest at Santa Jruz on the 27th, passing through the Solomons aa far as Bogotu. After repairing lainages to sails, etc., left for Auckland on he 16th, and had fresh easterly winds down he coast, the yacht arriving as above.
