"THE SULTAN OF SIXTH AVENUE".
Tins is the title given by the New York papers to Mr. David Wolfe Bruce, who was recently arrested in a house surrounded by a bevy of fair ladies in scanty attire, in the midst of Oriental luxuries. Bruce is 80 years old, and the ladies from IS to 26. The American law, it appears, could not touch Bruce, who was discharged. The women all had counsel. Four of thorn tho justice discharged, ami ho fined the others 10 lols. each. Afterwards he remitted the fines. Tho young women who were arrested in the house were very communicative. They told a Journal man that Bruce when he called at the house was wont to lay a roll of at least 3Uoodols. by him, and that on some occasions he spent as much as BOOJOK per visit for wine and in money gifts. Ho had a mania for girls with long hair, they said, and paid small fortunes to young women who possessed it. One of the blondos admitted that she had had her hair cut, but got a wig in ordor to get Brace's present?. The young women who figured in tho raid wore angry in court, for tho reason that five other girls who were in tho room with the old man when they entered had escaped.
