ANNUAL LICENSING MEETINGS.

The annual ' meetings of the Auckland North, Auckland South, and Auckland Easb Licensing Committees' were held at the Residont Magistrate's Courb yesterday. Mr. J. B. Stoney acted as clerk, and Sergeant Gamble represented tho police. AUCKLAND NORTH. The committee consisted of the following gentlemen :—Messrs. J. J. Holland (chairman), T. T. Masefield, C. Bailey, Adam Porter, and J. J. Craig. The chairman expressed his satisfaction at the manner in which the hotels had been conducted during, the • past year. There had been no complaints from the police or from the general public. He hoped they would be conducted equally well during the coming period. There would be no alterations whatever in tho programme for the ensuing year. These remarks applied to all three districts. Renewals were granted as follows: — Robert Henry Beattie, Star Hotel; Harry Bennett, Pier Hotol; R. W. Brown, Thistle Hotel; Lindsay Cooke, Albert Hotel; Charles A. Cooper, City Hotel; John Endean, Waitemata Hotel; Bridget Evans, Gleeson's Hotel; Thomas Foley, Shakespeare Hotel; .|phn. Gallagher, British Hotel; Thomas Kiley, Governor Browne Hotel; H. F. Luks, Victoria Hotel; W. Mahoney, Oxford Hotel; G. B. Martin, United Service ; W. McManus, Alexandra Hotel; W. J. McMahon, Albion Hotel; John Morrison, Royal Mail Alfred Parker, Bricklayers' Arms; W. H. Pearce, Prince Arthur; James Ronniok, Shamrock Hotel; P. W. Ryan, Empire Hotel; A. J. Tapper, Hobfon Hotel; Alex. Schultzo, Oriental Hotel; Samuel Tooman, Aurora Hotel. The following transfers were agreed to: —Oriontal Hotel, from Michael Gallagher to Alex. Schultze. City Hotel, from J. R. Scotb to Charles A. Cooper. AUCKLAND SOUTH. Hill, Carpenters' Arms Hotel; W. Regan, Rob Roy Hotel; C. E. Stone, Robert Burns. A transfer was granted of the Rising Sun Hotel from Eleanor Eliza Barrett to C. J. Emery. The renewal in tho case of tho Carpenters Arms was granted on condition thab a new building was erected in. six months. Necessary alterations wero required in other instances.

Nouthcotr.—The annual meeting of the Northcoto Licensing Committee was held at noon yesterday attheotliceof Mr. E. J. White, Queen-street. The comirtitteo consisted of Captain Slattery (chairman), and Messrs. Walters and Tarry. Sergeant Kelly represented the police. The police report as to the manner in which the Northcoto Hotel hud been conducted was satisfactory, and a renewal was granted to the present licensee, Mr. PantieH.

Epsom.—Tho Epsom Licensing Committee hold their annual meeting yesterday at 319, Victoria Arcade, Auckland. Present: Tho chairman, Mr. 11. Iteos George, and Messrs. Cochrane and Udj', with the clerk, Mr. Seaman, and the inspector. The minutes of previous meeting having been confirmed, and a satisfactory police report received respecting tho Epsom Hotel for tho past year, a renewal of license was granted to James Gordon Wattie, Mr. Jervois, who represented the applicant, undertaking that cortain ropaira considered by tho inspector to bo necessary should bo attended to. The clerk's account was approved for paymenb by the Local Board having jurisdiction.

Pokekohk.—The Licensing Bench held their annual meeting in the R.M. Courthouse, on Saturday ab noon. There wero three members present beside the clerk, Constable McGovern—viz., Messrs. Pollock (chairman), Steen, and Wright. After reading a written report on the stats and manner in which the Pukekoho Hotel had been conducted during the past year, which was highly favourable, tho application of Joseph Robinson, the present licensee, for a publican's license, i - .stead of an accommodation license us at present, was duly considered and granted.[Own Correspondent.]

In tho former district tho license for the Rob Roy Hotel was granted, but that for a renewal of the Bridge Inn license was refused. All the applications for renewal in the Hastings district were granted, with tho exception of that for tho Tairua landing accommodation house, which was objected to by tho police on tho ground that the houso was conducted in an improper manner. Mr. Miller askod for an adjournment for a month to substitute tho name of another person. This,request was granted. An application for a new license for the old Exchange Hotel at Tapu, which had been unlicensed for tho lasb twelve months, was adjourned to the 24th inst. A wholesale license was granted to Charles A. Winder at Tairua, but an application for a similar license by a native for the same district was refused. Ab tho annual meeting of tho Christchurch South-east Licensing Committeo today tho applicants whose licenses had been endorsed during the preceding year were granted ten o'clock licenses only, and several whose houses required repair, or against whom charges were pending, were directed to apply again on June 19th. Ab Sydenham, evidence was heard in regard to tho application for licenses for three houses in Row ton Ward,' two of which had been closed by the late prohibitionist committee. Mr. Caygill, for the prohibitionists, raised the same objection as he brought forward in tho case of the Southern Cross Hotel yesterday—namely, that a local option poll must first bo taken, and result in a majority for an increase of licenses. Ib was intimated that, whichever way tho decision of the committeo went, tho cases would be taken to the Supreme Court.
