With the view of mitigating the unemployed difficulty at Dunedin, arrangements are now being made to start bushfelling operations on the second of the improved farm settlements in Otago. It is located on Catlin's River, and probably about 20 men will bo sent up to it within a week, when road works on the western side of the Wairan, near Clifton, will be started as soon as die necessary engineering surveys are made. This may occupy some two or three weeks, after which about 25 'men will be pub on the road works and these men will most likely be drawn from Invercargill. ,j The surveys of roads through the Cheviot estate are now in hand, with a view of enabling a party of men to be taken up from Chiistchurch to construct a road from Hurunui to the Cheviot homestead, and from the homestead down by the River Jed to port. •, A acuity has arisen to delay the commencement of bush-felling operations on the improved farm settlement between Oxford and Rotorua, in the Auckland district.
