[by telegraph.— press association.] Wellington, Thursday. The following amended regulations relating to the inspection of schools and standards of examinations appear in to-night's Gazette : —l. Knowledge of cause of phenomena of seasons shall not be required for the fourth standard, but shall be required for the fifth. 2. The last five of the geometrical problems prescribed for the fourth standard may at the option of the teacher be reserved for the fifth standard. 3. For the first, second, and third standards the inspector shall nob insist on a knowledge of the technical words of geometry. The balance-sheet of the Opera House ihows the receipts amounted to £1930, and the expenditure to £1643. The Government do nob intend to fill the vacancy caused by the Defence Engineer's resignation. If anything out of the common is required, Major-General Schaw will probably be asked to supervise. Somewhat remarkable weather has been experienced in Wellington during the last fortnight.
