FOR PEACE SAKE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—My excuse for writing to you upon t Masonic subject is that the happiness of a large section of the community depends upon the action taken by the Grand Lodge of New Zealand at the communication to be held tomorrow night, in the matter of retaining the old charters of lodges which joined the new organisation. At the time the Grand Lodge of New Zealand was formed, the leaders of the movement thought fit to secure possession of the charters of the lodges joining, and notwithstanding the advice of the more sensible of the members, who wished these charters returned to the constitution which originally granted them, they are still retained by the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. I trust, however, that the example set by Lodge Eden in returning to Brother Niccol the charter given that lodge when it joined the new organisation will be followed by New Zealand Grand Lodtre, and that all the old charters, which are certainly the property of the Grand Lodges of England, Ireland, and Scotland, will be returned to their representatives in the colony. If such is done one great obstacle towards the healing of the breach at present existing in the ranks of Masonry will be removed.—l am, etc., Past Master.
