Papatoetoe.—The annual meeting of the Papatoetoe school district was held on Monday. The Rev. D. J. Steele was voted to the chair. The report of the retiring committee was read by their chairman, Mr. Wade. It showed that during the year a new tire grate and new blinds had been provided. The most important work was the laying of pipes, filling the old ditch, clearing away the old gorse hedge in front of the school grounds, and replacing it with a neat white painted fence which has greatly improved the appearance of the premises. The Papatoetoe Road Board have continued the drain for some distance along the Station Road. A footpath has been formed in front of the fence, ana the committee hope to induce the East Tamaki Road Board, who have control of the Great South Road, to put on scoria gravel at an early date. Reference was made to the ability and energy displayed by the teachers as shown by the numbers passed at the annual examinations, and the favourable reports of the inspectors. The percentage of passes at the last examinations were 62.9, and failures 12.5, but actual percentage of the pupils examined who passed was 87.5. Book prizes have been given to those pupils in each standard who were recommended by the head teacher as the most deserving. In the drawing competition, 18 pupils enterod for the freehand studies, and five were successful in obtaining pass certificates. The balance from previous year was £30 lis 8d; receipts from all sources. £98 16s Id, leaving a balance* of £23 14s Id to commence the new year. The committee regretted that the irregular attendance was increasing, and that during the last quarter the attendance fell from 81.4 to 71. The report as read was adopted. The following gentlemen were unanimously elected as the committee :— Messrs. Bailey, Garruth, Payne, Scott, Wade, Watson, and Wyllie, and a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting. At the meeting of the committee held afterwards, Mr. Wade was elected chairman, and Mr. Watson secretary, and the meetings of committee fixed for the second Saturday of each month, at nine a.m.—[Own Correspondent.]

Waiuku.—At the annual meeting of householders Major Hamlin presided. The secretary of the outgoing committee, Mr. J. J. Deed, read the report and balance-sheet, which showed that the inspector's returns were all highly favourable. The committee complained of irregularity of attendance, and urged the greatest possible regularity. In June last Miss Warm, at her own request, was removed from Kariotahi School, and Mr. J. A. C. Lamont was appointed as her successor. In Movember Mrs. Binns was appointed as sewing teacher at the same school. During the past year several special grants had been made by the Education Board. The material for a shelter shed at Waitangi had been supplied, the settlers finding the labour, and the committee had every reason to believe that a shed will shortly be erected at the Waiuku School on similar terms. The teacher's house at Kariotahi has been furnished by tho Board with a cooking stove, and the fencing round the school has been renovated by the Board, at a cost of £7 lis. A number of shelter and ornamental trees were planted in August. The abstract of accounts showed a credit balance of £27 17s lOd. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. In the election of a school committee 14 went to the poll, with the following result: —C. T. Barriball, 42; J. J. Deed, 41; J. R. MeElwain, 41 ;G. Bennett, 40; A. M. Barriball, 37; J. MoFadyen, 34; J. Handing, 25 ; C. Upsom, 13; C. Greenhead, 10; J. Harris, 10 ; A. Holmes, 10; J. Hill, 9; A. May, 9; J. Lish, 8. The chairman declared the first seven duly elected. A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close. At a meeting of the newly-elected committee Mr. C. T. Barriball was elected chairman, and Mr. J. J. Omaha.—The annual meeting of householders was hold on April tilth. Mr. George Knaggs was appointed to the chair. The treasurer, Mr. Thomas W. Knapcgs, read the abstract of receipts and expenditure, which showed a credit balance of £12 5s 4d. The accounts were duly audited and were adopted. The following was the result of the election of a committee : —George Ashton, 31 John Wyatt, 25; William Neely, 25; Alexander Kempt, 25; Thomas W. Knaggs, 24; Joseph Wyatt, 24; Duncan W. Knaggs, 23; William Greenwood, 13 ; and George H. Saddler, 10. The chairman declared the fir3t seven elected the committee for the ensuing year. The feeling of the meeting was then taken as to the advisability of dividing the district, so as to let the Village Settlement of Dacre's Claim manage their own school. The vote showed a largo majority against separating until tho new school was erected. A vote of thanks to the outgoing committee and the chairman concluded the meeting. At a meeting of the committee Mr. Thomas W. Knaggs was , appointed chairman, secretary, ami treasurer. —[Own Correspondent.] Waipipi.—■At the animal meeting of householders, Mr. Astly Gillot was called to the chair. The reporc of the retiring committee was read and adopted, and showed a balance to credit of £7 lis. For a new committee ten householders wore nominated. Charles Bell, Alexander Gibb, John Spilsbnry, H. Gibb. and James Funded. At the first meeting of the newly-elected committee Mr. Charles Bell was reelected chairman, and Mr. Alexander Gibb, treasurer. The report of the school inspector as to the management of the school, under our teacher, Mr. David Russell, was very good. The number of children attending school is increasing and a library has been established.— Correspondent.] Patcmahok.— annual meeting of the householders was held on the 24th April. Mr. W. T. Wright was called to the chair. The report of the outgoing committee referred to the satisfactory state and progress of the school, and urged the parents to show more interest in their school. The headteacher could not be too highly spoken of. The householders expressed themselves highly pleased with the efforts made by the committee to promote the interests of the school, and stafcod they could not do hotter than re-elect the old members, who had worked so well for them. This is the fifth year that the chairman has filled the chair, and most of the other members of the committee have sat with him during that time. The usual vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close. The following are the names of the school committee:— William Thomas Wright (chairman), James Boden, William Goldsworthy, Philip Henry, Thomas Lioyd, John McFadden, and Thos, Watson.—[A Correspondent.] West Mauku.— annual meeting of householders took place on Monday. Mr. Pilgrim presided. The secretary, Mr. Walker, read the balance-sheot, which was adopted. It showed a credit balance of £11 9s 6d. The usual votes of thanks were passed, and the following were declared elected as the new committee":—Messrs. H. Crispe, James Gallagher, Robfc. Johnston, T. B. Pilgrim, W. R. Wright, A. Wighling, and 13. Wily. The committee met and appointed Mr. H. Crispe as chairman, and Mr. J. Walker as secretary, at 30s per annum, — [Own Correspondent.] Mullet Point.—The annual meeting was held on the '24th instant. Mr. J. Snoll was called to the chair. The secretary read the abstract of the school fund accounts, which were as follow :—Balance in bank 31st March, 1892, £27 7s lid; receipts from Edu- ; cation Board for ordinary incidental purposes for twelve months, £28 ; special grant, £(i 10s: total, £61 17s lid. Expenditure: Cleaning schools and outbuildings, £7 15s; fuel for school use, £2; repairs, £7 ; rebuilding Mullet Point chimney, £6 10s; school stationery, £3 lis stationery and stamps for 1890 91, 7« Gd; balance in Union Bank, £41 7s 5d : total, £61 17s lid. The balance-sheet was adopted. The now committee elected was as follows :—Messrs. A. Algie, A, 1). Grant, J. Laurie, J. Snell, G. Scandrett, Towsr, and Edward Morgan. On the motion of Mr. A. Algie a vote of thanks to the outgoing committee was passed, also a vote of thanks to the chairman. The newly-elected committee appointed Mr. A. Algie chairman. It was agreed to call for tenders to repair the teacher's boat at Mahurangi Heads, It was also agreed to do some clearing of tea-tree at the Mahurangi Heads' school.
