Pi ice Bros, completed tho new drop-chick to-day for lowering down to the 500 foot level, and Willi deliver tho same at) the pumping works early on Monday morning, when immediate steps will be taken to place it into position. Dekp Level Committee.—The Thames Deep Level Committee is to hold another meeting in the course of a day or two for the purpose of further considering the matter of drawing up a suitable scheme for the development of tho low levels of the goldfiold.

Alihjknia.— Another set of timber was placed in position in the winze to-day upon Dixon's reef, aud as stripping operations wero resumed directly afterwards it is probable a portion of tho roof will bo broken down on Monday next. The rise from tho 70 foot level is now up a. height of 9 feet, but as yet no quartz has been broken. The picked stone on hand, about 560 pounds in all, and tho general dirt accrued from the winze, will probably be forwarded to the Cambria battery on Tuesday next, and its treatment com uicncod on Wednesday.

A few days ago tho 'Mining Inspector, Mr. Georgo Wilson, paid an official visit to Lowrto Brothers' New Find, at Waitokauri, and whilst there he secured four different samples of quartz broken from the reef upon which operations are being conducted. These ho brought on to the Thames, and delivered to Mr. Park, at the School of Mines, for tho purpose of having their assay value ascertained, and Mr. Park reports as follows to Mr. Wilson, who has kindly placed tho information at my disposal : — Bullion. No. 3 parcel was taken from a paddock contain ing about 10 tons of quartz, broken from the reef in the crosscut lately driven a little distance below tho northern outcrop, at which point the reef ib 10 feet in thickness. No. 4 parcel was taken from a paddock of 5 tons of rubbly quartz, obtained from tho outcrop of the reef at tho southern end of the claim, about 7 chains distance from the place where Nos. 1, 2, and 3 parcels were taken. It will, therefore, be seen that ouch sample may bo considered us a fair test of the reef at the various points from whore they were takon.

GENERAL MINING NEWS. A Perth telegram states that a sensational discovery was made in the 118 feet level of tho Central Company's mineSouthern Cross. Tho stono is impregnated with gold, equivalent to 200oz to the ton. On March 2nd the usual monthly dividend of 6d was declared by the Mount Morgan Co. Q.,; absorbing £25,000. About 1350 men are employed about the mine. Tho Peak Hill Proprietary Company havo had another crushing from their immense lode, and obtained from 352 loads of quartz 208£oz of gold. Offers have been made by a London syndicate to find £10,000 for the development of tho New Emerald Co.'s property in New South Wales. The Broken Hill Proprietary Company, on the 3rd instant, declared a dividend of 2s per share, amounting to £96,000, and carried forward £10,000 to the reserve fund. Deep sinking at Charters Towers is still the rage. One of our contemporaries in reviewing the operations states that the impetus to such was given by the Brilliant mine at 700 feet level, whence it took out 35,000 tons of stone of tho value of £245,000. Since then the average dividend has been £80,000, but this year ib la expected it will , touch £100,000. ~ ' I
