TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB'S SUMMER v, ■;-./■'". : MEETING. V- ■'■ J '::•

The Summer ; Meeting 'of 5; the Takapuna Jockey Club was concluded yesterday at Devonport, and as this is always a popular outing on Regatta Day, there was an excellent attendance of the public. The racing was, throughout interesting. In several of the events there were surprises, and, as a consequence, large dividends followed. The Jockey Club Handicap was won by Tit. who, after a great race down the straight, defeated Lottie by a short neck. Morion, who on the opening day won the Cup, was made a very strong favourite, but he was never really dangerous, and had to be hunted along vigorously to make anything like a run near home, finishing away in the ruck. A protest against the winner, on the ground that Hodson, the rider of Tit, had struck Lottie, was not upheld. Fishmonger, who won the Steeplechase, ran a great horse, winning easily after having led nearly all the way. The meeting was throughout admirably conducted. Mr. Halstead acquitted himself well as starter; and the handicapper, Mr. W. Knight was warmly congratulated on the excellence of" his work, especially in the Hobson Handicap, in which race there was only a length difference between the four contestants. To Mr. R. Wynyard, the able secretary, must be attributed in great part part the success of the meeting. The tium of £4768 was invested through the medium of the totalisator, and as the amount on Saturday was £3612, the total for the two days was £8380. The totalisators were admirably managed by Mr. W. Tit ran out at the head of the Held when the flag was lowered, and when the straight was reached, she was still in front, half a length clear of Lottie, Master Pat and Ingorina next. Tit was still in front five furlongs from home, when Coalscuttle made a forward move, and so did Morion, who had hung at the post at the start, and had been in trouble all the way. At the turn for homo, Tit had about a length's advantage of Lottie, who ran ' alongside her a few yards further on, and an interesting race ensued. Tit winning by a neck, Ingorina a length further off third. Time, 2m. 14s. Dividend, £14 6s. After three furlongs had been travelled Fishmonger went to the front, and thence afterward was never beaded. Jumping beautifully, he was flrsi over the t— «terjump, Ingarangi, Isidore, and Neli following* jim, separated each one from the other by a. j gth ; then a couple of lengths behind Neli, was Aorere, with Kate a length further off, Hopeful Kate, Lady Onslow, and Jim plodding in the rear.
