WELLINGTON DRAINAGE SCHEME.

[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday. A special meeting of the City Council was held tonight to appoint a sanitary engineer to supervise tho drainage works. There wore sixty-nine applications, including many from Australia. Mr. R. L. Mestayer, formerly of Manchester, and who carried out the Shone sewage works of Adelaide, bub who is now in the service of the New South Wales Government, was appointed. Mr. Mestayor has had great experience in drainage wovks, and was highly recommended by the Advisory Board, comprising Messrs. Ferguson, Higginson. and Maxwell. The Council also decided that they could nob accept the offer of Messrs. Johnston and Co., as agents for the Shone system to carry out the work at an estimate as the law provided that benders must be invited.
