CALEDONIAN SPORTS.
The wet weather continuing during the previous night and yesterday, thus making it impossible to carry out the programme of the Caledonian games, announced to be held in the Domain Cricket Ground, with any degree of comfort, the committee met yesterday morning and definitely decided to further postpone the sports until the 30th insb. [BY TELEGRAPH, —- PRESS ASSOCIATION. J Oamarct, Tuesday. The Caledonian games were continued today, and were again very successful. The takings at the gates and carnival Were far in excess of last year, probably due to the fact that the Society gave £76 to bicycling. The cycling events were most exciting, aud some splendid racing was seen. The following ate the resultsCycling—One Mile: T. Clarkson, 1( J. Boyd, 2; J. Fraser, 3. Two Mile: Bate, 1: T. Clarkson, 2; McCombie, 3. Mile: Bark, 1; Body, 2; Tilly, 3. The other events were well contested. Thomley won the Open Wrestling nnd Leslie the Mile Walk.
Ti aiaru, Tuesday. At the Caledonian spoits on Monday and to-day Thomas, starting from scratch, won all the principal handicaps except the 220 yards race, which was won by Maxwell, of Qamaru, Hassell won all the bicycle events but one. Lindsay was the most eiuccessf nl in weight-putting and hammer-throwing. Dunn won the Cumberland wrestling heavy weights, 1 and McLeod the light weights. Fr&ser won all the chief prizes in pipe music, and McGregor in dancing. The sports were both a financial and athletic success. The Society produced " Rob Roy " both evenings, and had crowded audiences.
Diwflnm, Tuesday. At the Caledonian sports to-day about 600 C attended. In the Dunedin Handicap J. Douglas. 13|yda, won 220 yds distance in 23 3-stn s. In the 440 yds J. Jair, 12yds, was first in 53Js. The Amateur 440 yds was won by W.A. Love, scratch, in '53 2-sth s. In wrestling M. Powley took first prize in best of three styles. In second series of three competitions, R. J. Scott won the border style, the others being unfinished. In the two-mile bicycle event H. Thomson, ChriatchurCh, SOyrds, was first, with Whelan, 90yds, second. R. Fordyce, 140 yds, won the mile walk in 6m. 2738., Bo wen, scratch, being fourth. Stedman won the three-mile bicycle, with H. Thomson second. The two-mile Handicap was won by J. McDonald, 150 yds, N. G. Binnie, 75yds, second, J. McDonald 85yds, third.
